Overview
Expand lets you extend the canvas beyond the original image boundaries. It generates new content that matches the existing image naturally, allowing you to change aspect ratios or add more scenes without cropping important details.
What Expand Does
Extends the image beyond its original edges (changes the aspect ratio)
Generates new content that blends seamlessly with the original image
Preserves the main subject and overall style
Useful for reframing and layout adjustments
How to Expand an Image
1. Open the Image You Want to Expand
You can expand:
A generated image
An uploaded photo
An image from your threads
2. Select Expand
In the tool menu or homepage:
Click Expand
Expansion controls will appear around the image
3. Choose an Aspect Ratio
Select a target aspect ratio to expand your image:
1:1 – Square format (great for profile images or posts)
4:3 / 3:4 – Standard or portrait layouts
9:16 – Vertical format for stories or short videos
16:9 – Landscape format for banners, thumbnails, or screens
Kira automatically expands the image in the necessary directions to fit the selected ratio.
4. Confirm the Expansion
Once you’ve chosen an aspect ratio:
Review the expanded canvas
Click Confirm
Kira fills in the empty areas to complete the image
Each successful expansion counts as one action.
Tips for Best Results
Expand gradually rather than in one large step
Combine Expand with Inpaint for fine control
Use Crop after expanding to finalize the composition
Upscale after expanding if you need a higher resolution
Credits & Usage
Expanding an image costs 5 credits per successful result
Credits are only deducted when the expansion completes successfully
Failed or interrupted attempts do not consume credits
Troubleshooting
The expanded area looks inconsistent
Try a smaller expansion or add a clearer text instruction.
The subject moved unexpectedly
Reposition the image before confirming the expansion.
Details look soft/unclear
Try applying Upscale after expanding for higher clarity.
